Aircraft Windscreen Static Charge Removal Kit
 
Pilots and ground crews are subject to injury from intense static
charges that build up on the windscreens and canopies of military
aircraft following their missions. To protect flight line personnel
from electrical shock, Mercatus International has developed, under
a contract with the U.S. Navy, the Model MMK100 Static Charge Removal
Kit.
The kit consists of a pair of heavy gauge rubber insulative mittens
encased within a shell of continuous filament polyester fabric. Woven
throughout this outer fabric shell are carbonized nylon static conductors
designed to safely dissipate the buildup of electrical charges. Upon
landing, the windscreen and canopy are wiped down with the soft,
static dissipative mittens, safely eliminating the static electricity.
The two mittens are electrically connected via heavy duty, 6 foot
retractile cord and grounded to the airframe by a similar coiled
cord of 26 feet, allowing expansive freedom of movement around the
aircraft.
The MMK100 Static Charge Removal Mittens have been designed to provide
safe static elimination even in the most hostile environments.
